What is it?
Program Overview
The Portugal D7 Visa, often called the Passive Income Visa or Retirement Visa, is a long-term residency route for non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals who can support themselves through stable, recurring income from outside Portugal. It is one of the most accessible paths to living in Europe and offers a clear route toward permanent residency and (eventually) citizenship.
The D7 Visa is ideal for retirees, individuals with passive income, and those who plan to relocate abroad. It emphasises financial self-sufficiency rather than a qualifying investment.

Requirements
Eligiblity Criteria
To qualify for the D7 Visa in 2026, applicants must meet several requirements:
1. Nationality
You must be a non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizen.
2. Passive Income
The D7 Visa requires proof of ongoing, stable passive income from outside Portugal — such as pensions, rental income, dividends, interest, or similar recurring revenue.
Starting in 2026, the minimum passive income requirement is linked to Portugal’s minimum national wage, which was updated to approximately €920 per month.
This means a typical baseline requirement is:
Main applicant: €920 per month) / €11,040 per annum
Spouse: +50% of base (€460 per month) / €5,520 per annum
Each dependent child: +30% (€276 per month) €3,312 per annum
Qualifying passive income can include rental income, pensions, dividends, interest, investment income, returns from stocks and bonds, trust distributions, royalties, and other regular, verifiable passive earnings, provided the income is stable, recurring, and legally sourced.
