Unlike passive or remote-work visas, the D2 is based on active business involvement and contribution to the Portuguese economy. It offers a legal pathway to long-term residency and, ultimately, Portuguese citizenship.
Eligiblity Criteria
To qualify for the D7 Visa in 2026, applicants must meet several requirements:
1. Nationality
You must be a non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizen.
2. Income/Business Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate savings exceeding €11,040 euros or more.
There is no fixed minimum investment amount for the D2 Visa. Instead, applications are assessed on viability and credibility, including:
A robust business plan
Evidence of sufficient financial resources to support both the business and personal living costs
Proof of relevant experience or qualifications
Demonstration that the business will be economically active in Portugal
Portuguese authorities evaluate applications case by case, focusing on sustainability rather than headline figures.
